We offer a variety of accommodations to meet your individual
needs and enhance your experience abroad. The descriptions below offer an
idea of what each type of accommodation is like. Exact characteristics will
vary considerably from site to site.
Host
Family
Host family lodging consists of living in the home of
a local family. It is a great way to practice your language
skills outside the classroom and learn more about the
country’s culture, people, and cuisine. We highly
recommend that you take advantage of this great opportunity
to fully immerse yourself in the study abroad experience.
All of our host families are middle-class according to
the standards of the host country and live in apartments
or homes in safe and attractive areas.

All of our host families are middle-class and live in
apartments or homes in safe and attractive areas.
Many families are individuals living alone, but some are
couples with or without children. Few families have young
children.
Distances to the schools vary from a few minutes walk
to 45 minutes by public transportation.
Students are asked to respect the routine of the host
family, but are free to come and go as they please.
All families are carefully screened and visited to ensure
that the accommodations are suitable for students.
Many families have been with the program for years and
have consistently received excellent student evaluations.
Residence
Lodging in a residence consists of living with other students
in a dormitory-like atmosphere. It is agreat way to meet
other international students and make new friends. Typically
residences are close to the school, sometimes inside the
school building. Single and double rooms are available,
and students share facilities such as bathrooms, kitchens,
livingrooms, laundry, and study areas. Most residences
include cleaning of shared areas but meals are not included.
Private bathrooms are available in some residences.
Bed
& Breakfast
Bed & Breakfast lodging is similar to living in a
residence in that you will have a private room in a building
with other students. However, unlike the residence, a
private bathroom, cleaning service, and continental breakfast
are included. It is a great way to enjoy independent living
while still meeting other students. Single or double rooms
are available. Typically, B&B’s are within walking
distance of the schools, but may require some public transportation.
Shared
Apartment
Shared apartment lodging consists of living with two to
five other students in a fully furnished apartment or
flat near the school. In some cities, students may share
the apartment with local residents or students. Students
of different nationalities are normally placed together
so that you may make international friends and practice
the language you are learning. You will have your own
bedroom and share common areas of the apartment, such
as the kitchen, bathroom(s), living room, laundry, and
study areas. Cleaning of the common areas is included,
but meals are not included. Private bathrooms are available
in some locations.
Private
Apartment
Lodging in a private apartment consists of independent
living in an apartment near the school. The apartments
are fully furnished and you will have your own bedroom,
bathroom, kitchen, and living room. Meals are not included,
but cleaning services and laundry facilities may be included.
With this type of housing, you are permitted to
have guests anytime. In some locations overnight guests may require an additional fee.
Hotel
or Apart-Hotel
This type of accommodation typically offers the most amenities
and is recommended for students who prefer more luxurious
lodging and who may have guests. Hotels are close to the
schools and include a private bathroom and cleaning service.
Laundry service is typically available. In hotels and
apart-hotels, meals are generally not included, with the
exception of breakfast in some locations. Apart-hotels
also include a small kitchenette and living area.
