Our Spanish language school in Buenos Aires is a modern facility conveniently
located downtown with easy access to all forms of public transportation. A few steps from the school is the famous Florida Street, a pedestrian zone filled with shops and cafés, as well as the Galerias Pacifico, a beautiful shopping mall which also houses the Borges Cultural Center. At the end of Florida street, just a few blocks away from the Spanish school, you will find yourself in the peaceful Plaza San Martín, where you can enjoy nature in the midst of the city. For trips further afield, there is
excellent public transportation near the school, including trains,
subways, buses, and even ferries to neighboring Uruguay.
Newly established, the school occupies the third floor
of an office building. There are seven classrooms, all with
air-conditioning and equipped with TVs and DVD players. Spanish students
also have access to computers with free Internet. All teachers
are native Spanish speakers, have university degrees, and have
been extensively trained in the school’s effective methodology.

Activities and Excursions |
|
| |
|
| |
| |
Our school in Buenos Aires offers a
variety of cultural and social activities during the week. Complimentary
activities include staff and student happy hours and the Cine
Club, where you can get together with classmates at the school
to watch an Argentinean movie. Another popular option (available
for a small additional charge) is tango lessons with a professional
instructor.
To help you explore the fascinating city of Buenos Aires
while continuing to practice your Spanish, the school also arranges
two guided afternoon excursions per week. Excursions are included
in the cost of all programs; however, students are expected
to pay for their own public transportation costs and entrance
fees (if applicable). Some of the excursions we offer are described
below. We invite you to participate in as many as possible to
truly make the most of your time in Argentina!
 |
| |
|
The Recoleta
One of the most popular excursions among our students
is a trip to the neighborhood known as a "slice
of Paris" in Buenos Aires. Recoleta is a beautiful
place to walk and students are given a guided tour
of one of Buenos Aires' most visited cultural quarters,
including many famous French-style buildings, large
parks, and the National Museum of Fine Arts. |
|
| Another spectacular sight in this neighborhood is the Recoleta Cemetery, one of the oldest in Argentina, where students walk among the impressive tombs of national heroes, former presidents, and the world-famous Eva Peron, better known as Evita. The excursion ends in one of Recoleta's cozy cafés where students and the teacher enjoy a coffee or tea and some of Argentina's famous "alfajores" (sweets filled with "dulce de leche"). |
|

|
|
|
 |
 |
| |
|
The Rosedal
This is one of our most popular excursions for all those students who enjoy being outdoors. The Rosedal is Buenos Aires' most famous and most visited park. The excursion begins with a picnic where the students and their Spanish teacher enjoy a bit of fresh air. After lunch, students enjoy a leisurely stroll through the park to appreciate its lovely bridges, piers, ponds, impressive sculptures, |
|
| and abundant vegetation. Another option
for those who would like to do a bit more than walk
is to rent bikes or participate in one of the park's
free aerobics classes. It is really a great way
to spend an afternoon. |

 |
| |
|
San Telmo
This excursion offers a trip to one of Buenos Aires
most typical neighborhoods. San Telmo was home
to
many aristocratic families until the yellow fever
epidemic of 1871. After the epidemic, many of the
area’s beautiful homes were taken over by
families of squatters and became tenement houses.
It wasn't until 1970 that these houses began
to
be remodeled and considered valuable pieces
of architecture.
|
|
| In addition
to a walking tour of this neighborhood, students
enjoy visiting the local antique shops and the San
Telmo Market, where both expensive and inexpensive
antiques can be found, as well as artwork and crafts
made by local street artists. The excursion finishes
with a stop at a traditional café for a beer,
coffee, or soft drink. |

La Boca
On this afternoon excursion, students tour the first
port of Buenos Aires—the famous La Boca. This
neighborhood was built by poor immigrants who worked
at low-paying jobs in the meat salting houses, lumber
yards, and stores of Buenos Aires. Due to the poverty
of the area, these immigrants had to resort to painting
their homes with assorted colors of leftover paint.
|
|
| These
colorful houses characterize the neighborhood of
La Boca, and are one of the reasons that it is now
one of Buenos Aires' most visited neighborhoods.
An Argentine passion that also distinguishes La
Boca is the country's most popular soccer team,
the Boca Juniors, and its stadium La Bombonera. |

|
| |
|
|
|
 |
 |
| |
|
The Plaza de Mayo
This trip takes students to the part of Buenos Aires
that has been at the center of Argentina's political
history. The excursion begins with a walk around
the Plaza de Mayo, a beautiful square that since
1810 has been the scene of important national political
events. After touring the square, students visit
the famous buildings surrounding the plaza.

Puerto Madero
This excursion takes students to a once typical
port that has seen its old brick warehouses converted
into first-rate restaurants, movie theaters, universities,
and offices. It is now Buenos Aires' newest, most
exclusive, and fastest growing district. While visiting
the port, students will enjoy lunch at one of Puerto
Madero's beautiful restaurants.

and entertaining way to improve your Spanish.
Every day you will focus on a different well-known
South American song, which will act as a springboard
for conversation and practice! The course is
composed of a variety of musical genres (pop, national
rock, tango, folklore, etc.) and covers a wide variety
of lexical, grammatical, and cultural topics.
|

Each
lesson was specially designed for use

This a fun and effective way to sharpen your listening

CELU Preparation
The CELU (Certificado de Español Lengua y
Uso) is the only Spanish proficiency exam recognized
by the Argentine Ministry of Education. The
exam measures the ability to communicate in Spanish
in “real-life” situations, and the certificate
is of great value for those who plan to attend a
Spanish university or work in Spanish-speaking environments.
|
|
The
CELU test preparation course combines intensive
general Spanish classes in the morning with one-on-one
preparation sessions in the afternoon. The preparation
sessions will familiarize students with the exam
format and allow them to practice activities similar
to those required by the test including listening,
reading, writing, and speaking. The CELU is administered
twice a year, generally in May and in November.
Please contact BridgeAbroad for specific course

"When
I arrived in Argentina, I knew almost no Spanish. My host
family spoke only Spanish, so I knew I would have to learn
quickly in order to communicate even the most basic thoughts.
Thankfully they read my mind and helped me adjust to a
different culture. Two months later when I left Buenos
Aires, I cried as I hugged my host family goodbye. They
had become a part of me, and they made my trip the best
it could be.
It also helped that Linguatec's staff really cared about
how I was doing in my classes. They worked with us diligently
and were patient when we couldn't get things right after
the tenth try. Since they were all studying or knew English
or other languages, they could relate to the frustration
that comes with language learning. I also enjoyed getting
to know them outside of classes, because they showed us
parts of Buenos Aires that we might not have seen otherwise.” |

”The
teachers at Bridge-Linguatec were great at bringing the
classes to my level in order to keep things challenging.
Perhaps the best lessons were those where I read Borges
over a coffee at a local cafe. It was nice to build a
personal relationship with most professors...to share
my experiences in Buenos Aires and to get to know their
lives and culture as Argentines.
It was helpful to have different teachers every day; it
changes the pace, the accent, and oftentimes the focus.
Some professors definitely focus more on conversation
while others on grammar. There were also a nice variety
of excursions that fit not only my personal but also professional
interests. A trip to the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange gave
me an excellent chance to see my business vocabulary in
action.
Everyone at Bridge-Linguatec, from the assistants to the
director, made me feel extremely welcome and went out
of their way to accommodate my needs. They were very flexible
with my requests and made sure that I got the most out
of my time here.” |
 |
Kari Hoerchler |
|
”From
the first moment, Linguatec's staff warmly greeted me.
They set me up with a marvelous host family and I started
classes right away. The fact that the groups are so
small and that we have teacher rotation makes the learning
process much easier and much more dynamic. Even speaking
only Spanish in class, which is something, I didn't
really understand in the beginning, helped me think
in Spanish, and therefore, have a much better fluency.
In my opinion, my stay with Linguatec was very enjoyable
and I can't think of anything they could have done to
make my stay more pleasant.”

"I learned
more Spanish in three weeks at Bridge-Linguatec in Argentina
than I did in four years as a Spanish major in college.
The classes were extremely informative. Not only did
I love classes and my host family, but I fell in love
with the city as well. It was an amazing experience."

”Bridge-Linguatec
in Buenos Aires offered me a great experience and the
chance to learn Spanish in exactly the ways I needed.
It was this personalization of instruction that made
my three weeks there so productive, but this was only
one of the positive aspects among many others—such
as friendly, knowledgeable teachers, excellent facilities,
and interesting excursions in the Argentine capital.
I would recommend Bridge-Linguatec to anyone with [country-specific]
language needs, but not only to those seeking a localized
repertoire. Quite to the contrary, Bridge-Linguatec
is more than willing to customize lessons to help people
looking for any number of different Spanish specializations.
This versatility, along with Bridge-Linguatec's many
other strengths, makes the school attractive to a diverse
swath of students.”

”I
joined Linguatec especially because of their Tango program.
I started dancing Tango a few years ago in my state,
but had never had the opportunity to come to Buenos
Aires. It has been one of the best trips of my life,
where I discovered a beautiful city, improved my Spanish
and danced Tango until exhaustion.”

”I've
always loved traveling and last year, when I decided
to come to South America, I knew my trip would be much
more interesting if I could understand what was being
said. Not only did I want to visit the different countries
but also I really wanted to get a feeling for the culture.
My respect for the Latin culture has always been enormous
and after knowing Buenos Aires, it's even bigger.
Argentina was the first Spanish speaking country I visited
in South America and I was very lucky to learn about Linguatec
first-hand. Not only did I learn how to express my general
ideas with them but I also got a feeling for the Argentinean
culture through the variety of extra curricular activities
that were offered, such as happy hours with the teachers
and my fellow students, sailing in the Tigre river, and
of course, my tango classes. The teachers in Linguatec
were all very patient and extremely helpful and the DVD
is a great instrument to make the classes more dynamic
and interesting.” |

school atmosphere. Our friendly, helpful staff will go out of
their way to make sure that every aspect of your stay exceeds
your expectations. We know that quality teachers are a fundamental
part of the language learning process, and will greatly affect
how quickly you'll learn Spanish and how much fun you'll have
while doing so!
All of our teachers are native speakers,
have university degrees and have been extensively trained
in our unique methodology. They are selected for their outgoing
and dynamic personalities, patience, creativity, and, most
importantly, enthusiasm for teaching their language. As you
can see from the following profiles, our Spanish instructors
come from a variety of backgrounds. What they have in common,
though, is a passion for teaching and a genuine interest in
sharing their language and culture with you.
