The capital of the People’s Republic of China, Beijing
is a booming municipality of almost 14 million people. Located
in the north of the country, it is home to some of the most
significant and exciting sites in the world, including the Great
Wall, Tiananmen Square, and the Forbidden City. However, the
true charm of Beijing can be found by exploring its splendid
palaces, ancient temples, beautiful gardens, and delightful
teahouses.
Beijing is an excellent place to learn Mandarin Chinese. Not
only is Mandarin the most widely spoken language in the world
(above Spanish and English), but the Beijing dialect was the
basis for written Chinese. Additionally, as the capital city,
Beijing is the nation’s heart of politics, economics,
finance, industry, culture, and education, so you are never
at a loss for things to do or to learn.
