Monteverde |

Monteverde is a cherished region of Costa Rica, world-famous
for its incredible eco-tourism and successful efforts in environmental
conservation. Located in northwestern Costa Rica about a four-hour
bus ride from the capital city of San José, the Monteverde
zone is situated on the continental divide at an elevation
of 5,600 feet. The town of Monteverde—one of ten towns
in the region—successfully maintains an indigenous charm
with rustic dirt roads and delightful restaurants serving
a delicious selection of food and drink. It also holds a yearly
music festival in January, which features musical groups from
all over Latin America.
Monteverde means "Green Mountain" in Spanish, and the area
definitely lives up to its name. One of the most interesting
and popular destinations in Costa Rica is the renowned Monteverde
Cloud Forest, in which our school is located. This natural
sanctuary boasts lush green vegetation (90% of which is virgin
forest) and offers abundant opportunities for hiking, bird
watching, and discovering wildlife. In fact, the Monteverde
Cloud Forest has hundreds of species of mammals, birds, insects,
and plants, including five species of cats, 30 kinds of hummingbirds,
over 5000 species of butterflies, and 420 kinds of orchids.

The beautiful Monteverde campus is the closest Spanish language school
to the Santa Elena Reserve and the famous Sky Trek, Costa Rica’s
well-known treetop canopy tour. The Spanish school features great facilities
for both studying and relaxing, including 25 classrooms filled
with natural light, a large glass-enclosed sunroom, a TV room,
gardens, lounges with sofas, and an outdoor patio.
Between Spanish classes, the outdoor café is a great place to
grab some coffee or snacks and chat with your fellow classmates.
After lessons, you can even soak in the Spanish school’s jacuzzi!
The large dance studio on campus also has plenty of room for
Spanish students to experience the Latin rhythm during their free time. While
you’ll find plenty to do on campus, the school’s in-house tour coordinator
can help you plan trips out of town and give you the inside story on
traveling in Costa Rica.

| "My time in
Monteverde has been wonderful! I am leaving this campus
feeling that I have learned not only a great deal of Spanish
but made good connections amongst the other students and
faculty. The school provided me with a fantastic family
that made my stay very enjoyable. I felt as if I became
part of the family. I will be sad to leave and am already
looking forward to my next visit here." |
Noah Grath

|
| “I came
to Costa Rica with a weak high school background in Spanish.
After this intensive and effective program, I was able
to converse with Spanish speakers rapidly and with much
confidence. The school gave me the opportunity to interact
with Tica culture and enjoy the Costa Rican style of life
that they call ‘Pura Vida!’” |
Micheline Babinski

“I spent one week
in Heredia, one week in Playa Flamingo and one week
in Monteverde, all were like a small paradise. They
were all beyond my expectations. The people I met were
all wonderful people: students, teachers and above all
Costa Ricans, kind, affectionate always happy.”
