Playa Flamingo (Flamingo Beach) is located in the province of
Guanacaste on Costa Rica’s Pacific Gold Coast, and boasts
one of the most beautiful beaches in the country. With its unspoiled
white sand, crystal blue water, and luxurious homes nestled
in the tropical vegetation, Flamingo is postcard-perfect. It
remains one of our most popular study abroad destinations. And
though Flamingo does not represent its namesake—you won’t
see any of the exotic pink birds here—you will see other
amazing Costa Rican wildlife, such as sea turtles, manta rays,
sharks, and devilfish.
Flamingo is 47 miles (76 km) southwest of the city of Liberia
and is the only full-service marina between Acapulco and Panama
on the Central American Pacific coast. There is never a lack
of outdoor activities in Flamingo, and the people of this town
are more than happy to help you discover them.
You can visit the local nature reserves of Santa Rosa and Palo
Verde, classified as dry tropical forests, ride horses along
the beach or in the surrounding mountains, or visit Guaitil,
a local community dedicated to the production of artisan ceramics—just
to name a few options. Flamingo is also perfect for swimming,
snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, sailing, or just relaxing
in the sun.
There are also a few bars, nightclubs, and hotel casinos open
late for those who enjoy the nightlife. Flamingo’s ideal
atmosphere, friendly people, and abundance of recreational activities
will make you think twice about leaving, but not about returning.
