Monteverde
Cloud Forest Reserve
Only a 20 minute taxi ride from school, the Monteverde
Cloud Forest Reserve is known as one of the most
outstanding wildlife sanctuaries in the tropics.
Positioned on top of the Continental Divide, the
reserve extends down both the Caribbean and Pacific
slopes and includes eight different ecological life
zones. The tour starts with a slide show and lecture
prior to the hike along the trails of this famous
reserve.
Monteverde
Orchid Investigation Project
This tour takes students through a network of short
paths exhibiting over 400 species of orchids, all
native to the region, including what is thought
to be the world's smallest flower. At any time of
the year there are a minimum of 40 species in bloom,
but as many 120 species can be blossoming at one
time!
Arenal
Volcano
Although the road is bumpy, the view on the road
to Arenal is breathtaking. You may even see white-faced
monkeys, toucans, and other birds along the way.
On this overnight trip, you’ll have the opportunity
to bathe and relax at Tabacon Hot Springs, natural
water pools and falls heated by the volcano. In
addition, you can hike to Catarata La Fortuna (a
waterfall) and along the base of the volcano to
see the lava up close!
Horseback
Riding to El Mirador San Gerardo
On this excursion, you will travel by horseback
to El Mirador to see panoramic vistas and spend
the night in a small cabin located at the top of
the mountain. Here you will have a great view of
Volcano Arenal, and on a clear night it is possible
to see volcanic eruptions.
Canopy
Tour
You will have a bird's eye view of the forest as
you travel from tree platform to tree platform on
horizontal traverse cables (zip lines) with the
constant assistance of a guide. You will see many
different indigenous plants and animals and get
some spectacular photographs. This is a major adrenaline
rush!
Sky
Trek and Sky Walk
The Sky Walk provides another way to experience
the canopy from above. It is a fascinating combination
of both a canopy tour and a hanging bridge tour
where you will be able to view the forest from the
highest level possible. A guided tour walks students
over five hanging bridges that connect a 2-kilometer
path.
