Located in northwestern Costa Rica about a four-hour bus ride from the capital city of San José, the Monteverde zone is situated on the continental divide at an elevation of 5,600 feet. This natural sanctuary boasts lush green vegetation (90% of which is virgin forest) and offers abundant opportunities for hiking, bird watching, and discovering wildlife. In fact, the Monteverde Cloud Forest has hundreds of species of mammals, birds, insects, and plants, including five species of cats, 30 kinds of hummingbirds, over 5000 species of butterflies, and 420 kinds of orchids.
