Spanish & Nature (Biology, ecology and natural resources)
This seminar enables participants to obtain a greater understanding of the unique eco-system which constitutes a cloud forest as well as focus on issues of conservation and the factors that affect the delicate balance of community development and environmental preservation.
Discussion and lectures are coupled with direct experience through guided hikes and optional practicums. The experience is enhanced through cultural interchange by living with a local Monteverde family as well as through study of the Spanish language. Includes homestay with a Costa Rican family (breakfast, dinner and laundry service included), Spanish classes, learning materials, and one weekend excursion and volunteer opportunities.

Medical Spanish
This course is designed to address the specific linguistic challenges faced by those who work in the health field. Focus is on medical vocabulary and doctor/patient dialogue. During the week optional afternoon activities and excursions are organized so that you may explore the Monteverde area.
Excursions may include a guided night hike of the Finca Ecológica, the Sky Trek (a series of canopy lines overlooking the rainforest), the butterfly farm and horseback riding to El Mirador. There is also an optional weekend excursion to Arenal Volcano. If you wish to remain in Costa Rica after the medical Spanish course, a school staff member can assist in arranging a clinical observation where medical students (at least 4th year) may shadow a physician at a hospital in the Central Valley.
