Cuenca |

| |
It is easy to forget that you live in the 21st century when
you first visit Cuenca. Cobblestone streets, towering cathedrals,
and whitewashed buildings create an enchanting 18th-century
atmosphere that is unparalleled in all of Ecuador. Most of the
buildings have colonial architecture with colorful balconies,
and the city's numerous plazas and markets retain the charm
of the past.
Known as “the Athens of Ecuador,” Cuenca is also
the birthplace of many of the country’s notable writers,
philosophers, artists, and poets. Having preserved this legacy,
the city has become the cultural capital of the country and
recently earned recognition from UNESCO (United Nations Educational,
Scientific, & Cultural Organization) as a World Heritage
Trust Site.

Three Good Reasons
to Study Spanish in Cuenca |
|
|
| |
 |
Cuenca is Ecuador’s best-kept
secret. Its surrounding regions are rich in history,
with a colonial atmosphere that has survived thanks
to years of almost complete isolation. |
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
 |
This city is a great starting
point for exploring Ecuador. Students often spend
several days or weeks traveling through the Ecuadorian
Sierras, trekking through the Amazon, or relaxing
on the beaches. |
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
 |
In addition to its colonial mystique,
Cuenca also offers modern amenities such as Internet
cafés, contemporary shopping, and an exceptional
nightlife. |
