All students are encouraged to participate in the varied program
of social activities that the school offers, including a guided
tour of Montpellier, social events, wine and cheese tastings,
sports (including water sports), welcome and farewell parties,
dinners in French restaurants, and visits to museums, theaters,
concerts, mansions, gardens, and parks.
In addition to the opportunities above, the school arranges
half-day and full-day excursions to neighboring towns, always
accompanied by French teachers or professional guides. Some
examples include:
Nîmes
Considered by some as the "Rome of France"
or the "French Sevilla," Nîmes is
best-known for its impressive amphitheater, similar
to the Coliseum in Rome. The "Maison Carré,"
a magnificent Roman temple, the "Carré
d'Art," a museum of modern art, and the cathedral
"Notre Dame St. Castor" also contribute
to the charm of the city.
Avignon
Camargue
This historic town is completely surrounded by an
impressive city wall. From the cathedral, which
dominates the city, you can see the Rhone River
and its famous bridge. Many boutiques, art galleries,
and animated street musicians make a stroll in the
town very enjoyable. Students can also join an optional
wine tasting in the ancient palace of the pope.
Perrier
Water and Bottle Factory
Tour the facility where they produce this famous
sparkling beverage.
Pont du
Gard
Designated by UNESCO as having historic preservation
status, this is the largest Roman viaduct ever built.
It is more than 2,000 years old.
Aigues Mortes
This ancient fortress was built in the 13th century
by Saint-Louis. The tour includes a visit to the
fortress, a picnic in the sand dunes of the beach
Espiguette, a visit to nearby salt mountains (produced
by salt lagoons), and a drive to "Les Saint
Maries de la Mer," the capital of the Camargue
region. Have your camera ready, because along the
way youre likely to see typical area wildlife
such as bulls, wild horses, and wild pink flamingos!
Uzes
Uzes is a historic town with a rich patrimony, situated
in a charming countryside. The Saturday market here
is very colorful and offers typical Provencal products
such as pottery, herbs, olive oil, and homemade
cheese.
Arles, Provence
As one of the most beautiful towns of Provence,
Arles has stunning architecture and a wide range
of historical treasures. It was once the home of
Picasso and Van Gogh. The city was recognized as
a cultural heritage site by UNESCO.
