Montpellier opens like an amphitheatre towards the Mediterranean with its long, sandy beaches and étangs (lagoons) with huge colonies of wild pink flamingos. Thanks to its excellent location between the Provence and Camargue regions and the Cevennes and Pyrenees mountains, Montpellier offers a wide range of nearby excursions. There are many gorges, creeks, and picturesque villages to visit.

Within the city, Montpellier offers a beautiful historic center with narrow, picturesque streets, elegant mansions dating back to the 16th century, and many tree-shaded cafés. Its captivating cultural life is expressed in its many street musicians and artists, a variety of famous festivals, and countless artistic treasures. In addition, Montpellier has a long tradition as a university city, with three different universities calling the city home: Universities of Montpellier I, II, and III. More than one quarter of Montpellier's 260,000 inhabitants are students. The climate in Montpellier is excellent. The sun shines here more than 300 days per year... so anytime is great time to study in Montpellier!
