After classes finish for the day, the Nice schools offer a cultural
activities and excursions program that is designed to help you
discover your new country, culture, traditions, customs, and
everyday life. The program includes a city tour, and trips to
local galleries, museums, and other local points of interest.
Or you can take a weekend excursion to some of the famous surrounding
resort towns. If you are interested in sight-seeing by yourself
or with other classmates, the school staff are more than willing
to assist you with any questions you may have, and help you
book local travel or excursions. Here are a few examples of
the excursions you could take.
Opera House
Built in 1885, the Operá de Nice is internationally
recognized by the quality of its events, by the
technical possibilities given by the grand Auditorium
of the Acropolis, and by the beauty of the theater
itself. Each season, over 100 performances are held.
Going
to at least one performance at the Operá
de Nice is a must, even if it's just to admire the
enormous chandelier.
Russian
Cathedral
Nice used to be a popular vacation spot for the
Russian aristocracy, and there are several Russian
attractions marking this relationship. The Cathedral
is the most impressive with its six distinctly Russian,
onion-shaped towers inspired by St. Basil's Cathedral
in Moscow.
Cimiez
Museum of Archeology
At the site of Roman Cemenelum at Cimiez, this museum
presents the tools, sculptures, pottery, engravings,
jewelry and coins found here, and includes the outside
excavations of the ancient baths and other buildings.
Matisse
Museum
Situated in the center of Cimiez's olive grove,
this prominent museum is housed in a 17th-century
Genoan villa and filled with the fresh and innovative
work of Henri Matisse. Matisse's art was inspired
by the colorful lines of the French Rivera. There
are also some of his personal effects here.
Promenade
des Anglais
As one of the most distinct features of Nice, the
Promenade des Anglais is a long, wide boardwalk
that runs along the Mediterranean Sea from the east
of Nice to the west. It is lined with cafés,
hotels, museums, and luxury apartments. A stroll
down the Promenade des Anglais at dusk might just
be the highlight of your trip!
Monaco
& Monte Carlo
A short train journey from Nice will bring you to
Monaco, the playground of Europe's elite. Residents
are drawn here by the great weather, glamorous lifestyle,
and, most importantly, the tax-free income. Be sure
not to miss Monte Carlo, one of the best beaches
in the French Riviera and its famous casino.
Grasse
Seventeen kilometers north of Cannes, Grasse has
served the country well in the art of perfume production.
Here, master perfumers, also known as "nez" (noses),
train for seven years to recognize approximately
6,000 scents.
The town,
with its distinctive orange roofs sheltering densely
packed cottages, also produces some of France's
finest flowers, including jasmine, Centifolia rose,
lavender, mimosa, orange blossom and narcotic narcissus.
Antibes
Antibes is one of the poshest and most famous of
the Riviera resort towns. While here you can visit
the Picasso Museum and the Musee Archaeologique
Bastion St-Andre, and of course, shop till you drop
at the array of fine boutiques.
Cannes
This world-famous resort on the Cote d'Azur is best
known for its International Film Festival in May
when the city overflows with money, champagne, and
celebrities. Apart from posturing boutiques, hotels,
and restaurants, it also has pristine beaches with
the equivalent of room service.
