Medicina
Medicina is a language-learning program created
in cooperation with AMSA. Originally developed for
first and second-year medical students, the program
is now open to almost anyone studying or practicing
in the medical and healthcare fields. Medicina gives
participants the chance to study Spanish while learning
about another country's medical system.
Participants
are exposed to different cultural practices and
traditions and also have opportunities to establish
relationships with others in the medical community.
The Medicina program offers a unique opportunity
to gain exposure to healthcare issues and situations
in Spanish speaking countries.
As a Medicina student in Antigua, you will be introduced
to a variety of medical settings, discussions, and
lectures to give you an overview of medical practice
in Guatemala. Your Spanish classes will include
some emphasis on medical terminology as well as
linguistic and cultural preparation for treating
the Spanish-speaking population. Medicina participants
will be observing local medical professionals and
occasionally getting some hands-on experience. Participants
in past programs were able to witness surgeries
and births, draw blood, suture, give shots, read
films, take histories, and assist with physical
exams in Spanish. Medicina is the ideal program
for medical and healthcare personnel who work or
plan to work with Spanish-speaking patients.
Activa
Activa is a small-group program with a maximum of
two students. It is designed to give you a chance
to increase your Spanish vocabulary and general
understanding while exploring Antigua and its neighboring
villages. Every weekday afternoon, you will experience
the magic of Antigua with one of the school's teachers.
Whether it is visiting the local market, going to
a museum, or relaxing in one of Antigua's famous
cafes, you will see a different side to this great
city.
Spanish &
Salsa
This program offers you a delicious taste of Latin
flavor, as you combine your Spanish program with
salsa lessons. For one hour every day, five days
a week, you will practice salsa techniques, shines
and turns, with the focus on dancing with a partner.
And almost every night is salsa night in one of
the discotheques in Antigua, so you will not be
short of opportunities to practice!
Classes
are available for all levels—from complete
beginners to advanced students and professionals.
Classes are small, with a maximum of 5 students
per group.
Spanish &
Volunteer
Learn Spanish, experience the culture, and make
a difference in the lives of Guatemalan children
with our Spanish & Volunteer program. In this
program, you’ll study Spanish with a private
instructor for four hours each day, and after class
you’ll volunteer with our local partner organization
helping children in Antigua.
Volunteers
teach English, organize activities, and mentor local
children in need. It’s a great way to practice
your Spanish and get to know the community unique
and meaningful way. This program is offered through
Volunteer
Adventures, a BridgeAbroad sister organization.
