Heredia, Costa Rica 14-17 year olds

Our Costa Rica Teen Spanish program near San Jose is located in the residential suburb of Santo Domingo de Heredia. The site has a small-town atmosphere yet is conveniently located near the attractions of the capital city. High school students will experience the local language while surrounded by the inhabitants of this suburb of San Jose, creating a true Spanish immersion experience in Costa Rica.

Students will stay at host families, all of which are within 5-20 minutes walking distance to the school. We place 2 students of the same gender in each host family so that they will have a buddy to walk with to and from the language school.

  Classes
The Teen Spanish courses are usually held from 2:00-6:30 PM Monday to Friday with a half hour break. All teachers at the language school are native Spanish speakers with university degrees and certifications in teaching Spanish as a second language.

This immersion program is taught entirely in Spanish with a maximum of 5 students per class, allowing teachers to devote a lot of attention to each student.

Activities
Students in the Costa Rica Teen Spanish Summer program will be surrounded by the beautiful natural settings and warm people that Costa Rica is known for. Excursions are arranged on the weekends, and allow students to take a break from their Spanish studies and leave the city to see Costa Rica’s wildlife and national parks.

Activities are arranged in the morning and/or evening and will include things such as sporting events, hiking, Salsa lessons, and Spanish language games.

Please see the chart below for a list of activities and excursions.

Accommodations
Accommodation for teens includes 3 meals per day with specially selected Costa Rican families. Students will be picked up from the airport by a school representative and taken to their host family. All students will have the chance to stay in a host family with another student unless they request to be placed in a Costa Rican host family by themselves.

On weekend tours, participants will stay in hotels and share rooms with other students of the same gender that are also attending the Teen Summer High School Program.

Supervision

The Teen Spanish Program in Costa Rica provides a moderate amount of supervision. Participants are expected to be mature and to follow all of the rules provided in the Rules for Minors form at the time of registration. The host families are selected due to their proximity to the school as well as their ability to accommodate the specific needs of teens in the Spanish program.

High School Spanish students will be supervised while at the school, host families, and during teen program activities and excursions. Santo Domingo de Heredia is a safe residential area relative to the large city of San Jose. All host families will be 5-20 minutes walking distance from the Spanish language school in Costa Rica.

Host families may take high school students out in the evenings, however students will not be allowed to go out in the evenings without a member of their host family or a fellow student's host family. High school Spanish students are subject to a 10 PM curfew so that the host family can be sure they are home at a safe time. If a student misses curfew, the student will speak with the school’s directors concerning actions that must be taken.

Start Dates
