Venice is one of the most unique and popular cities in the world. It is completely surrounded by water and has over 150 canals through which the city's lifeblood flows. Everyone, from street cleaners to tourists, must use a boat to get around, creating a fun and unique experience for visitors. Its most famous waterway is the Grand Canal which runs through the middle of the city, and the adjacent avenue is often referred to as the most beautiful street in all of Venice. Here you can hop on one of the vaporetti (water buses) or motoscafi (water taxis) to get around. Of course, you cannot leave Venice without a ride in one of the beloved gondolas, an image which has become synonymous with Venice's romantic atmosphere.

The city is also rich in history, and numerous art galleries, museums, and landmarks call Venice home. A few of the famous sites are the Basilica San Marco (an immense cathedral named after the patron Saint Mark), Palazzo Ducale (an elegant waterfront palace), and Piazza San Marco (Venice's most famous square). Thirteenth to 19th-century architecture reigns over the city and 20th-century buildings are pleasantly rare. Fine cuisine is never hard to come by here, with so many excellent restaurants serving delicious Italian food. Whether for its canals, its cathedrals, or its cannelloni, Venice has quickly become a favorite city in which to learn Italian.
