Students in Puerto Vallarta can take advantage of a variety
of activities and excursions. Workshops offered by the school
include Mexican cooking, arts and crafts, salsa classes, and
Mexican music. Lectures are also given on such topics as Mexican
history, Zapotecan culture, and national holidays. A movie is
shown each week for students wishing to improve their auditory
comprehension and learn more about the culture of various Spanish-speaking
countries. There is also a “Café Social” once a week for students
and staff to socialize and practice speaking Spanish.
In order to get to know Puerto Vallarta and the surrounding
area, students can participate in a number of local excursions,
some of which are described below.
Fishing
Tours
Puerto Vallarta has the largest bay in Mexico (Bahía
de Banderas) and attracts fishermen from all over
the world. Head to the deep blue and try your hand
at catching the trophy-sized marlin, sailfish, mahi-mahi,
tuna, wahoo, and more. Fishing tours are available
year-round.
Whale
and Dolphin Watching
Pacific dolphins can be observed all year long and
each winter humpback whales migrate south from their
arctic feeding grounds to breed and rear their young
in the warm, safe waters of the Bahía de
Banderas. This is truly an exceptional experience!
Dolphin
Aquarium
Get to know the bottlenose dolphin up-close and
personal. This adventure begins with some time spent
learning about dolphins, after which you can actually
get into the water to swim and play with these amazing
creatures!
Village
Trips
Explore the lush nature of the Banderas Valley and
visit the small farming and ranching villages that
lie just north of Puerto Vallarta in the Sierra
Madre Mountains. These colorful villages, with their
mango, papaya, pineapple, and tobacco plantations,
date back to the 1700s and 1800s and are rich with
beauty and tradition.
Guadalajara
Students can participate in a two-day excursion
to Guadalajara, the capital of the state of Jalisco.
Guadalajara is the second most populated city in
Mexico and is considered a center of culture, history,
economy, and religion. The trip includes a stop
in the town of Tequila to learn how Mexico’s
famous drink is made.
