With beaches and ports along the Atlantic coast, the awe-inspiring Sahara
Desert to the southeast, and the Atlas Mountains running down the center,
Morocco is as diverse as it is magical. In this varied country, you can
take a camel trek, study prehistoric rock carvings, relax on a sunny beach,
explore ancient architecture, or even ski the snowcapped Atlas Mountains.
Although it may feel like a world apart, Morocco is actually quite accessible.
The country is located on the northern tip of Africa, just a short boat
or plane ride from much of Europe. Due primarily to its location between
two continents, Morocco is ethnically, culturally, and linguistically
diverse. Moroccans speak Arabic in their daily lives, but it is common
to hear French and Spanish spoken as well. The Moroccan people, who number
more than 30 million, are known for their friendly hospitality to foreigners.
Just the names of Morocco’s cities—Casablanca, Fez, Marrakesh,
and Tetouan—conjure up images of the magic and adventure that await
visitors to this fascinating country.
