This island east of the Dominican Republic offers a wealth of geographic treasures. The majority of Puerto Rico is covered by the central mountain range, but the island also boasts white sand beaches, tracts of preserved rainforest, expansive deserts, and the fascinating cave region of the north. This area is home to the Río Cayun, an underground river that has created miles of limestone caves. Spanish students based in San Juan will have the opportunity to travel to these varied and intriguing sites.
One of the most densely populated islands in the world, Puerto Rico is a combination of Caribbean, African, and western cultures. The mix of heritages and eras is especially evident in San Juan, where you can find colonial elements from the days of exploration alongside modern shopping and dining options. Although an American Commonwealth, Puerto Rico is a nation of its own. Puerto Ricans are intensely proud of their nationality and are welcoming to outsiders, a combination which makes learning Spanish in this country a warm and memorable experience.
