Barcelona |

One of Europe’s most-visited destinations, cosmopolitan
Barcelona boasts an array of cultural, recreational, and entertainment
offerings. It is the second-largest city in the country and
is also the capital of Catalonia, one of the 17 autonomous
communities that make up Spain. As such, there are two official
languages spoken here: Catalan, generally spoken in all of
Catalonia, and Castilian Spanish.
Located on the country’s northeastern coast, the city
of 1.5 million is truly a crossroads—between Europe
and the Iberian Peninsula, Roman and Moorish, modern and ancient.
Both a dip in the Mediterranean and a ski weekend in the Pyrenees
are only a short trip away. Within the city, a lively street
scene, sophisticated shopping venues, and fabulous nightlife
mix with art and history almost everywhere you look. From
the dark Gothic appeal of the Old City to the colors of Antoni
Gaudi’s art nouveau architecture all over town, you’ll
be amazed at the constant allure of Barcelona.

| “I loved my experience
abroad in Barcelona, Spain. I learned so much about
the Spanish culture, life and language, but most importantly
I learned about myself. My trip to Barcelona was much
more than just about learning Spanish, it was about
learning about other people, cultures, experiences and
myself. I was able to travel around Spain and other
countries in Europe and gained a sense of self. I realized
that the world was much bigger than I had seen it before.
My last couple of days in Barcelona were hard. I was
not ready to leave behind the life and the people that
I learned to love.” |
| Richard Wells |
|
“I met so many
wonderful people from all over the world. I learned
so much out of class though my interaction with the
people there. The service was everything that I needed.
All the teachers were helpful and excellent at explaining
things. I loved living with a host family. My host mother
only spoke Spanish, which forced me to do likewise.” |
| Andrea Pfaeffle |
|
“The school
was beautiful. I never had more than eight people in
my class. The teachers were all amazing, and I had really
good relationships with all of them. The school was
equipped with computers with Internet access, which
was very convenient. There was also a nice cafeteria
with a terrace outside and a cook, who served excellent
Spanish cuisine!
The apartment was great, there was a terrace and nice
living room with a television, one bathroom and a fully
equipped kitchen. This experience taught me so much.
There are so many people ranging from all ages, and
from all over the world, that you will be having conversations
with very diverse people, from all over Europe, Asia,
North America and South America. It is very exciting!"

“Barcelona is an
awesome city with so much to see and do. I was lucky
to have a super cool teacher who pointed out the hot
spots to me, from bars to clubs to sightseeing locations.
I made friends from all over the world and explored
a whole new city while studying at a school whose facilities
exceeded my expectations. I'm looking forward to repeating
this experience soon!" |
| Tanya Kololian |
|
“Everything was
great. There was no English spoken in the classes which
was excellent for learning a new language. The staff
were extremely accommodating and the teachers knew how
to set an environment for people of all ages and learning
styles.” |
