In addition to various sports such as soccer, volleyball, basketball,
and aerobics, the school offers many cultural activities to
complement your Spanish language studies. In the city and surrounding
areas, there are also facilities for tennis, swimming, horseback
riding and other activities available at a reasonable price.
Student
and Staff Dinner
On the second Friday of every month, there is a
dinner for all students and teachers. This is a
great opportunity to mingle with fellow students
and native Spaniards, make new friends and have
fun!
Dinner
and Drinks
Every Friday, the teachers and students get together
to enjoy drinks or dinner. Chat about your favorite
classes or the most memorable sights of Salamanca
while you practice your Spanish with your friends.
Salamanca
University
Visit the second oldest university in Spain, which
was founded in 1218 by Alfonso IX. The university
was constructed using Villamayor stone and decorated
with ornamental motifs, making it one of the most
beautiful buildings in Europe.
Cloisters
of the Church of San Esteban
This church is dedicated to the martyr St. Steven,
and is home to impressive cloisters, a remarkable
collection of tombs, and a museum with illustrated
choir books from the 16th century.
Escapade
Head out with your fellow students to one of Salamanca's
most popular discotheques for a night of dancing,
music and fun.
Visit
to the Art Deco Museum
The Art Deco Museum is housed inside the Casa Lis,
a modernist mansion built by Joaquin Vargas at the
beginning of the 20th century. You’ll be humbled
by the building itself—an iron structure intricately
designed with stained-glass windows and ornate floral
patterns, not to mention the museum which houses
a world-class collection of art.
Cathedral
This building exemplifies Plateresque style—a Moorish-influenced
combination of Gothic and Renaissance architecture
that has historically been a Spanish tradition.
The new and old cathedrals exist side by side, meeting
at the Patio Chico. Don't forget to see the Golden
Chapen and other unique sculptures.
Madrid
Spain's capital city is home to more than three
million residents, and is located just 2.5 hours
by bus from Salamanca, in the heart of the Castillian
plain. Madrid is quite the cosmopolitan city and
business center, characterized by intense cultural
and artistic activity and a lively nightlife.
The city is also the
headquarters for the Spanish government and the
home of the Spanish royal family, and plays a major
role in both the banking and industrial sectors.
On this excursion, you will have the opportunity
to visit Madrid's unparalleled museums where you
will see some of the world's most famous works by
artists such as Ribera, Titian, Raphael, Botticelli,
Fra Angélico, Rubens, Bosch, Poussin, Watteau,
Rembrandt, Dürer and Mengs, among others.
Segovia
Spend the day in nearby Segovia wandering the pedestrian
promenades and twisting alleyways where delicious
smells and subtle sounds fill the streets. Visit
the famous Alcazar castle, the cathedral, and the
Roman Aqueduct—the largest and best preserved
of its kind.
Zamora
Visit the town of Zamora, one of Spain’s best-kept
secrets and only an hour by bus from Salamanca.
Wander the steep streets dotted with medieval buildings
as they meander down the surrounding hillsides and
eventually meet the Duero River and be sure to check
out the renowned art nouveau shops near the Plaza
Mayor.
